  • Aberlour Distillery Abstraction Expansion
David Smith Contractors are proud to have played a key role in the Aberlour Distillery expansion for Chivas Brothers Limited, delivering a complex and innovative abstraction route to the River Spey. This landmark project showcased our expertise in Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), with over 840 metres of intake and outtake. The route was carefully engineered to connect the distillery to the river while seamlessly passing beneath critical infrastructure, including the A95 trunk road and the Speyside Way. In addition to the HDD works, our team successfully delivered the new control building and installed the River Spey feed, positioned two metres beneath the riverbed, ensuring long-term reliability and environmental protection. This project reflects our reputation for tackling technically demanding infrastructure with precision and efficiency — delivering solutions that support Scotland’s heritage industries and their future growth.
